Cadzow Castle Photograph

Cadzow castle as you can see from the picture is now is a dangerously ruinous state. Tradition has it that the ruins of Cadzow Castle perched precariously above the Avon Gorge is the site of the hunting lodge of the ancient kings of Strathclyde.

More recently. (in relative terms!) Mary Queen of Scots stayed here after her dramatic escape from Loch Leven Castle.

The castle is set in the grounds of Chatelherault estate and part of the castle was added to, even after it became a ruin (the folly wall)

Presently this property is managed by Historic Scotland
