Scottish Recipes - Purchasing and buying ingredients

I have been asked by quite a few people who are using the Scottish recipes on these pages, where they can purchase the ingredients referred to. Unfortunately this is not an easy question to answer as it will depend mainly on your home country. As a good example of this, perhaps you would like to try the Haggis or whisky recipes. You may live in a country with import restrictions on certain foodstuffs, or live in a country where the sale of alcohol is banned. This clearly would make life a bit difficult.

Below you will find a list of potential suppliers both shops or online foodstuff ingredient suppliers. I cannot recomend any of them as, staying in the UK, I have never required to use any of them. However, some people have told me that the top ones have provided a quick and efficient service for scottish ingredients.

EthnicGrocer.comalthough I clearly wouldn't regard Scotland as being an ethnic race this grocer provides some interesting basics.

Expat shop to youis set up specifically for those ex-pats or those who reside outside Scotland. A good selection but perhaps not the best variety.

Arbroath Smokies sells online not only Arbroath Smokies, traditionally smoked and prepared in Arbroath, but also Hot Smoked Salmon.

Golspie Mill in Sutherland, is driven by water from the local burn (one of probably only three traditional water mills still working) and has been making a high quality range of flours and meals since being fully restored in 1992. Many of their products are organic; all of them are entirely free from additives and made with pure, milled whole grains and pulses. Inverawe Smoke Houses is a small family business, based on the west coast of Scotland, maintaining traditional smoking techniques, producing succulent, smoky flavours.
