Basket Hilted Swords

This is a picture of a collection of basket hilted swords dating from the 18th centruy Scotland. Pictured and displayed at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. These swords are highly decorative and their ornate designs help "mask" the true purpose.
By the time of the Jacobite Rebellions this sword was likely the most common style being used in the Highlands and would have been carried by both Jacobite and Government troops
