Ongol-Ongol

This is a recipe of a popular Indonesian sweet made with vanilla and cornstarch boiled with palm sugar.
For US to UK equivalents see this rough guide

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 100 g cornstarch
  • 250g palm sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 250g grated fresh coconut
  • 1/2 tbsp Vanilla essence
  • water

Method:

Combine cornstarch and cold water, make a smooth paste. Set aside.

In a pan mix vanilla powder, salt, sugar and water. Boil it until the sugar dissolves totally in the water.

Add cornstarch to the sugar mix. On low heat cook for 5 min. Take it out and pour in a shallow tray.

When it chills and hardens, garnish with coconut powder and serve.

As with all recipes which involve cooking and baking a sensible approach must be taken especially when dealing with warm or hot (temperature) ingredients. If you are unable to take due care, please do not attempt to make any of these recipes. All recipes are tried at your own risk.
