This is a great versatile recipe that can be used when cooking lunch or dinners. Don't skimp on the meat! You can keep leftovers and sear them next day a frying pan or microwave to heat.
For US to UK equivalents see this rough guide

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 kg lamb, minced
  • L2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 cup cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 pitas
  • 1/2 cup diced tomato
  • Cooking oil

Method:

In a bowl combine lamb meat with cumin, salt and pepper, lemon juice, oregano and mix well. Leave aside for 1 hour.

Fry chopped onions and chopped garlic in a oiled pan till they turn golden brown.

Make small burgers from the meat and broil them for 5 min turning on each side every 2 min. Broil until the meat is cooked properly.

Take a pita bread and make a pocket between layers. Add the chopped onions, tomatoes, cucumber and yogurt to taste.

Garnish the pita with lettuce and insert one burger into each pita. Roll the pita.

Serve with chilli and garlic sauce.

As with all recipes which involve cooking and baking a sensible approach must be taken especially when dealing with warm or hot (temperature) ingredients. If you are unable to take due care, please do not attempt to make any of these recipes. All recipes are tried at your own risk.
