Meat Balls with Sweet Rice

These are popular Chinese meatballs with a spicy rice wine sauce, made with ground beef, sweet rice, pepper and other seasonings. A delicious meatball recipe for a main dish or appetizer!

For US to UK equivalents see this rough guide

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sweet rice
  • 2 cups chopped chicken or ground lamb
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp rice wine
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • Salt
  • 4 tbsp black pepper

Method:

Soak the rice in a water for 3 hours. Drain the water.

In a bowl combine rice wine, cornstarch, salt, water and the meat. Mix well, add salt and pepper to taste. Set aside for one hour to marinade.

Make meat balls and roll the balls in the soaked rice, so that rice sticks to them and cover the meat completely.

Cook the meat balls on steam or fry them in wok until they are cooked properly.

Serve meatballs hot with steamed bok choi and sauces.

As with all recipes which involve cooking and baking a sensible approach must be taken especially when dealing with warm or hot (temperature) ingredients. If you are unable to take due care, please do not attempt to make any of these recipes. All recipes are tried at your own risk.
